Our intensive efforts over the past 7 years have culminated today in the introduction of Data Defined Storage, a transformation way of thinking about and managing data. Over the past several weeks I have had numerous conversations with leading analysts on the topic of Data Defined Storage and our vision around it. I am pleased to report that we have received an enthusiastic response all around and have further honed our messaging based on the excellent feedback we received.

I want to gratefully acknowledge the dedicated hard work the entire Tarmin team has made. Steve Duplessie is an iconoclastic big picture storage technology strategist. Over the course of his career, Steve has earned the respect of an entire industry with his unique style, keen observation and pointed insight. Often controversial, I do find Steve to be a true original; it is with particular enthusiasm that I read his most recent blog post. I certainly believe that my recent conversations with him on Data Defined Storage have excited his interest and we look forward to continuing to excite everyone as we continue to move ahead at Tarmin.

Tarmin & IBM Collaborate to Facilitate the Storage & Sharing of Research Data
Tarmin and IBM have teamed up to provide a combined solution specifically targeted at the growing challenge of data management in the higher education market. This packaged solution is a unique offering that empowers universities and other research institutions to meet the data management principles of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, a UK public funding body. It provides over £800m of support to research institutions and requires that from May 2015, all publically funded research data will be available to the public and retained for the long term. Tarmin and IBM are initiating a joint marketing campaign based around an infographic and end user survey, to drive demand for the solution.
